Matthew Haigh is a recent graduate of the MA Advanced Theatre Practice course at Central School of Speech and Drama, where he focused on Performance. Prior to this, Matthew achieved a BA Honours degree in Drama at the University of Huddersfield.
As a result of studying on these two programmes, Matthew has developed a solid grounding in contemporary ensemble theatre and performance.
Recent performances at Central School of Speech and Drama include Aleastory (Alea Theatre), Transito (The Other Theatre Company) and The Laughter Clinic (2 Women Laughing).
Since graduating from Central, Matthew has gone on to work with established theatre companies such as Gilt and Grime where he performed in the production of How Much Do You Want It?, and also working with Out of Joint helping with the development of one of the company’s new scripts. He has also recently performed in a rehearsed reading of the new script, Stay With Me Till Dawn, with Second Skin Theatre at the Rosemary Branch Theatre. Matthew has recently co-founded Alea Theatre with other students from different postgraduate courses at Central School of Speech and Drama.
Matthew has also become part of the Theatre in Education company Upstage Productions, which delivers tailored workshops to educational establishments that “aim to develop students creativity whilst also giving them valuable tools for their learning and for the future”. In this company Matthew works as a workshop facilitator.
Matthew’s interests within theatre and performance are: improvisation (where he has worked with the internationally renowned improvisation artist Andrew Morrish); comedy in performance, physical theatre; and storytelling in performance.
Matthew will soon be performing in Susanna, a piece of new writing that will be part of the MSFT Theatre Company’s (formerly Misfit Theatre Company) monthly event ‘Dyssing Monadays’; a festival that promotes dyslexic writers.
